Mac the Ripper
Free, but not fast.

how long does it take to rip an entire movie?
- harlequino0
If memory serves, it's not so much the actual rip time, but then taking the VOB files and syching up with sound, and then exporting back to MPEG, and blah blah...
I lost interest pretty quick. :/
Allow several hours for the project.

okay,so let me get this straight. When i rip the DVD the content that is downloadd to my HD will not be a mpeg.
From this point I need to convert the files to an .mpeg in a seperate program.?What program can I use to convert to .mpeg?

Most of the rippers I've seen, are "all-in-one" packages, letting you rip, synch, and convert.
There are a bunch. If you look long enough, you might find one that converts the encoded DVD video files straight to MPEG or something else.

Yup. Even though it took a while, it was pretty clean! :)

handbrake is good.
took me all night to rip a movie to a 800MB file.
just let it go when you sleep.

I can vouch for handbrake as well. DVD ripping has always taken an age, no matter what platform you do it on,. although Handbrake does seem to perform veru well, 2 hour DVD, ripped to MP4 format on shitty iBook took about 4 hours.
Like Mr 'notexist'' said, set it running when you go to sleep.

and what if you wanted to create another dvd? without compressing it to .mov? can you just go 'create dvd,?
