Does anyone now of a good bitmap optimiser for flash?
I know there is optimaze but that would seem to be for reducing vectors rather than bitmaps.
Is there such a thing to reduce the overall swf size without noticably reducing the quality of the bitmaps just the size?

photoshop

...maybe the only option.
I was hoping for something that would optimise the entire swf though - but I guess if all else fails ps/ir might be able to do it.

i use fireworks for dealing with images for flash. i've noticed images for flash that are processed in photoshop the color tends to be off

the image sequence is exported from after effects - looks real swish - but is f*ckin' huge!!!
I'll just keep plodding on.
If anyone does know of something that fits the bill - give us a yell

Hey Dno,
There are a few ways to do this but it really depends on how much work you want to do. It also depends on how long your after effects animation is.
If its bitmap optimisation you want to achieve i'd export from After Effects as you've done as an image sequence. Here you can specify you output format in the options such as png but you'd be better off strting with an uncompreesed format such as bmp before you do the optimisation. You could then run a batch process in either photoshop, image ready or fireworks to export each frame as an optimised version automatically rather than having to optimise each frame manually. For this i would recommend Fireworks as the compression is so much better than either Photoshop or Image Ready so you'll get a better quality image for you file size.
Its possible that there is some software or after effects plugin that may well do all this for you but i'm not aware of one but then again After Effects is not really my area. Don't forget you could also import the swf into flash and play with the export settings such as the jpeg quality (this can have quite a dramatic impact on output swf file size)to achieve a satisfactory result and publish a more compressed swf.
Hope that helps!

fireworks works best for img's...better than imageready, PS, of anything else...

...cheers for that folks...
I'll keep you posted if I find a new way to keep em slick.
