Now, weve all seen the beautifull letterheads by biblioteque were all the employees names and details are on them and the person mailing the letter simply ticks the applicable box next to his/her name.
Now, my client is a small 2 man company (lighting and sound for theatres), whom have a tiny budget, I thought it would be good to put both their details on, with icons for light and sound (as one person is the sound engineer, the other light).
Trouble is, cause its been done so well before, would it be a rip off??

Not if you put flames down the side

LOL, seriously though, the shite bus cards they have now, have already got both their names on them, so would it be such a bad thing? My subconsious is sayin 'dont do it'!!!! argh

As long as you make it with more cowbell than theirs, no.
- Bluejam0
just do it. reads like you have a solid concept/idea anyways.
- -sputnik-0
you can use an existing concept as a springboard...just expand on it
- DavidFelt0
Thats what I thought, and if its not layed out the same then it cant be a rip can it? hmmm

use your creativity and figure out a fresh way to do it. like make them circles and have them punch out the circle next to the name. they sell small square punches as well. it will make the letterhead more dynamic.

spendoggs punch idea is a goodun!
- DavidFelt0
Sure is, lol, might have to pinch that! cheers guys, guess i just needed a bit of reassurance that i wasnt just cheaply ripping off others work!

don't do it.
conscience knows he's talking about. he's a good friend of karma.
- rasko40
you know you have *ahem* borrowed the idea, doesn't mean you can't do it with your own tweak though. And I doubt this hasn't been done before them anyway.

better still have the names perforated and the user punches out the person not required turning the card into a 1 person card.
Can also be used for individual cards as well.

practically EVERYTHING has been done before. ive come up with stuff before that i thought was complete genius only for someone to say "oh thats been done before".
my theory is as long as you havent just blatently copied it but youve either added your own tweak or bit of cleverness to it then its cool if you are happy enough that its not copied and can live with it as a designer.
seeing as they are to do with the theatre, why not have cards like theatre tickets that they rip in half and give whichever half is relevant to that person?
im presuming thats where the punch idea came from too - like punching a ticket at theatre etc

DO IT!
yours is totally different there's only two of them!
Why don't you put one on one side of the paper the other guy on the other, or do it upside down -
two people, 2D surface - ooo the possibilities.

"good artists borrow, great artists steal."

I've just rung Mason Wells at Biblotheque, and told him of your plan Felt, he said he will be monitoring this thread.
:D
I bet if you look hard enough, you'll find where they got the idea from, as Oscar Wilde said and Ian Anderson after him... Talent borrows, genius steals

does Bibliotheque have a site?
i am reading the "How to be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul" and they designed it. quite nice.
- uncle_helv0
Just a holding page though.
I agree jondj24 the book is well designed.
