Hmmm...
Maybe duplicate the device text as a movieclip.
Take that duped MC and use setMask to mask a fading rectangle.
U can't use device fonts for authoring mode MASKS, or animating the alpha and stuff. Not sure if setMask has the same prob tho.
Not sure. Neva tryed that. Might be worth a shot.

If its a flat colour behind the text you could alpha tween a block of the same colour over the top.

no problem with setMask but as soon as you try to animate the setMasked mc, the device text on it just appears and disappears...no fade in out effect

the background is an image, so that cant do =(

Well, as far as I know, you're fucked. Why system fonts by the way? Is it running off a cms that might have alternative character sets required?
- sect0
yup somewhat like that. whats bad about it is that ive been seeing some samples on the net that has the same effect, like the macromedia's main menu, but not fortunate enough to find a tutorial or sample.

Have you tried embedding the dynamic text inside a movieclip? That should allow you to tween it.

embed? you mean place the dynamic text inside the movieclip? yeah, ofcourse everyone tried that already long time ago. hoping that that would solved everything, but unfortunately that wont work.

I have the same problem sect. We sometimes have to do sites that will be localised through a cms into asian character sets so the fonts have to be system. So far, I have not found a way of fixing it. In the end we normally do one set of swf's for Europe and America, then another for Asia.

From Macromedia's Knowledgebase:
Device fonts cannot be masked. Although the mask may display correctly inside the Flash authoring environment, the final SWF will not display the text block.
Device fonts cannot be alpha tweened. A device font used in a symbol can be motion tweened, but any alpha changes applied to the symbol will not display for the device font's text block.
Device fonts cannot be scaled or rotated. Again, scaling or rotating may display fine during authoring, but will cause text to disappear in the published SWF. A text field that has been scaled or rotated, or a text field inside a symbol that has been scaled or rotated, will not display text.

what you are reading is an archive of knowledgebase frankosonik. device font could be mask using setMask. Other than that, whats written are still the same.
