I have a Canon T-70 with some lenses I rather like, and I want to make the move to digital and keep the lenses. They're stamped Tamron for Canon. I want something SLR-esque, lens-friendly, and for a reasonable price (C$500-ish). I know less about digital cameras than I do about central African postage stamps, so give a guy a hand?

leica's are very nice, but pricey... i believe they come with switar lenses, which are my personal favorite.
I would trust canon and leica first and formost.

i love canons, i swear by their digicams. first was a powershot 200 way back when, now up to a 20d.
www.dpreview.com is really the only resource notable for comparing cameras.

Canon Rebel ... but you're gonna have to shell out a little more than $500 (600-900). Then after that, its a D20 ($1000-$1400).

You'll find it difficult to purchase a Canon D-SLR lower than 800 USD.
You're probably looking at Canon's EOS 350d.
However, it looks like your using FD lenses on the T-70 (I'm not sure) which aren't compatible with the lens mounts of today (EF or EF-S).
If that's the case, you'll have to look into purchasing new optics. I would say 1000 to 1500 USD will get you set up.
You can do all your digital camera research ad Digital Preview:

lenses for the t70 are manual focus as well as old... they are not compatible with any of the new canon digital bodies...
those lenses are pre 87, so my advice would be to upgrade.
