hmmm, i really like his work and he's a pioneer, but I don't think we have seen THE website yet. like some of those irrefutable paintings.
doubt is stated as a method here. We need to doubt to improve. Ya'll know what i mean.

(Dec 30 05, 18:54)i classify web designer as some one who understands the tool, methods and limitation. he pioneered the use of flash and animation on the web using scirpting. i firmly believe this since there are alot of good designers out there but not everyone can design for the web.

i know what you mean, but i think we haven't seen the best of a coder and an artist yet.

(Dec 30 05, 19:12)either case we are limited by techonology thats given to us. someone like JD has pushed the boundaries of given limits and taken it to the next level. Taking ques from these innovators, the limits of technology increases and our boundaries to explore.

o on that note..
there was no university degree is digital design and interactive design.
as these guys graduate we will see alot more of integrated work in the creative field

im shocked no one has mentioned
Eric Natzke and Colin Moock..both are amazing... moock is more of a programming god
- version30
the coding exactly.
coding custom cms solutions for both large and medium scale clients is a task more daunting than interface design on anyday
pretty layouts would be nothing to web design without proper code
along that line
Jessey Cinis of stolen

http://blather.org/
http://cubancouncil.com/Chris Lea of media temple
http://www.chrislea.com/Travis Beckham of squidfingers
http://squidfingers.com/I see JD as an interactive media artist, not a web designer. http://stardust.tv is a perfect example of this. this is excellent coding and creative in its application but not user friendly. it is intended for its own crowd and has its attitude to match that of stardust.
imo proper web design as a usuable medium, not just an experimental playground, is vital to its continued existence as a platform for masses to easily interpret information and have it safely and effeciently processed
