anyone here from the binghamton area or anywhere nearby? im thinking about moving with family up there from houston, but from what i've seen off a couple job sites, the design/flash industry isn't too hot up there.
anyone got any insight/advice?

I went to college in Binghamton. Needless to say I transfered after one year (actually, I transfered because of majors, but the location/atmosphere didn't help either). The school, SUNY Binghamton, is great. Perhaps you'd find luck finding a teaching position there, but as far as the town goes, it's both depressed and depressing. It also ranks near the top of towns/cities in the US that get the least amount of sunny days.
Close by, however, is Ithica, which is a nice college town, and Syracuse.
Might I ask, why would you consider moving to Binghamton, especially if it's not for job relocation?

hmm yeah...binghamton is not very big on design. it's not very big on anything really.
closer to albany is where you may find a bit more...

as previously posted, its depressing. matter of fact, most of western ny is that way. stay away from rochester (where i grew up), buffalo (where my family now lives). if you are in any type of arts and want to make a living, dont do it. finding a client that can or is willing to pay more than $100 for any type of creative work will be difficult.
