funny, i tought there was an adverb for pamphlet.
it doesn't show anywhere else but here, as a noun, which is not quite correct i think:
- winter0

I saw the film yesterday. It's pretty good. Not the best, but after the first half it really starts to pick up. And I liked that the characters were aging quickly, so that the film didn't take even longer.
The acting wasn't all that great, but the actors did a great job during every emotional scene. I thought Heath did a wonderful job the first time he broke down, because it revealed that he actually had some feelings. And Jake was wonderful during his 'I did once' scene, which was his last get together b/w Jack and Ennis.
The only thing that bugged me was the first time they get together. I guess Jack picked up on some subtle hints that Ennis was gay, because I sure didn't. Except for the 'I haven't had a chance to sin' line, I didn't think Ennis showed any signs of being gay. And then they just make love in the tent, which was a bit surprising. Watching those scenes over again, there are a few more clues, but it still didn't seem like enough for them to just start sleeping together. I know that Jack was a bit hesitant at times to not push Ennis so much, since he knew that Ennis was brought up differently, but if Ennis wasn't gay, then he may have killed Jack.
Anyway, good film. I don't know if it deserves all 8 Oscars, but it does deserve a few awards.

Just saw the movie last night after Capote was sold out.
Man, it was pretty moving. I don't know why I didn't want to see it beforehand, but now I can't imagine having not seen it.
The scenery was amazing. I was really quiet afterwards as we went to have a drink before going home. Something about the isolation of the wilderness like that is very appealing to me.
But the movie was such a mix of emotions - sadness, fear, hope, beauty - an incredible array of things pulled off brilliantly by the actors. I always liked Jake Gylenhall and I think he proved an ability for bigger and better things with this movie.
I also told my girlfriend that Heath Ledger could have been a ventriloquist doll operator considering how little he opened his mouth.
I was really struck by the symbolism in the scene where Ennis confronted the biker looking guys at the fireworks. That low camera angle looking up at him, fireworks going off in the background, I guess I took that for a lot more symbolic than it may have been. I think the fireworks represented all the turmoil in his life and how his emotions just explode (no pun intented).
Pretty outstanding movie.

what a dreadful film. I can't believe I wasted €8 on this piece of crap. Terrible acting, slow story, bah, I feel dirty...

I was just thinking that Leah! The fact that it was filmed in Alberta, I mean. Beautiful scenery, but that's not too surprising.

(Feb 2 06, 07:59)Some people hated the pace of the film, but I liked it. It was a nice combination of slow scenes, mixed with years passing by.

I want my money back or at least the 2 hours...
