University of the Arts. If you read that article in Print a few months ago about the teachers from Basel that basically brought Swiss design education to the US and all that jazz, for some reason the article didn't mention that they all still teach at UArts. Their teachers were Armin Hoffman and Emil Ruder, haha... they have some remarkable stories. Look into it.

Go to the Art Insitute if you are into the whole graffitti thing. Graf people are at all schools. Best some of the best were at the Art Institute when I went there. I guess because the schools lets anyone in and that I guess would attract more derlicts. Ha it attracted me!

I went to the Art Institute....
Good school if u actually WANT to learn..
Although everyone else that went there seemed to just want to party and be a fuck up...

I just want to say while UArts is heavily based on Swiss style, it's not in a very strict sense. They encourage experimentation. I just don't want to give the impression all the work looks like a Brockmann poster. Not at all.

The thing about Tyler students is that they can make things pretty, but they can never explain why they did it. But that's just from my experience in dealing with them. I'm also biased since I actually went to PhilaU, which is heavy on the theory and conceptualization of your designs.

yeah philadelphia university has a great program. use to be collge of textiles and sciences right?

Tyler is a very conceptual based design school. Everything taught at that school has to do with ideas first. I think judging a whole group of students at once is absolutely ridiculous. For instance check out http://www.theheadsofstate.com

Tyler is the best I have a bunch of friends that went there but I didnt go there myself, I went to Uarts for illustration and AIPH for Design. It's intense and there are teachers there that are out doing there thing and good stuff. The dudes from headcase teach there. It is also pretty cheap compared to the other schools. I I could do it again I would go to Tyler, oh and philly heads my girl Victoria Gray has a Grad student design show there now sweet shit.

I went to UArts for Multimedia as well and I loved every minute of it. The Multimedia program was just starting out and I think they only improved on the program since my graduation in '02. Anyways its a great school and great city.

Thanks to everyone who posted a response. I didn't realize this post would get so many hits. Sweet!
A friend is looking to go to Temple and their significant other wants to go to school for GD but had no ideas.
Thanks for the help!
