so I am thinking about changing jobs within my agency.
I'd be moving from production artist in the print dept. to interface designer in the interactive dept. the company's saying its a "lateral" move on the organizational chart.
so even though its considered a lateral move, would I be justified in asking for a raise even though I had one less than a year ago on the basis of just changing jobs? anybody?

was this asked of you or you volunteered?
if you asked for it, you should move to position and do a good job for 6 months and ask for raise.

if you have a good relationship with the boss it wouldn't hurt to try.
good luck to ya jj.

I got an out of cycle raise before for taking on a similar position with a different team in the company.
You have to feel out the situation for yourself to determine whether it is appropriate.

yeah that's kind of what I thought. I didn't volunteer for the job, the company is going to hire for the position and they are asking me first if I want it.
thanks for the well wishes

that hasn't been a lateral move in the various places i've worked. if they don't want to give you a raise right away i'd wait no more than 3 months to request it, but i tend to be a little impatient.
congrats!

Bio just moved from graphic designer to "web guy" here, the positions have a set base salary, so he got a nice raise when he bumped up...........
could be different there though........

yeah, too bad there is no base salary here.

no harm asking.
let's the boss know that you feel that money's important.
some leech bosses think that if passion can drive you, they don't need to pay you.

You need to hold up and prove yourself. If you ask for a raise and flop you're screwed next pass. If you wait a few months and pull your wait they can't say no and you won't feel wierd asking.
