what company and what kind of business do they do?
IBM does make web sites as part of their consulting practice

we got aquired by Tivoli, which is part of their software division. Managing networks and such...
I work (ed) for a software company.

if I were you, I would start looking elsewhere. I've seen this kind of takeover, it's not pretty.
no offense.
they will dump everything you have into some sort of IBM-based CMS that is controlled with their languages and software.
resistance is futile

so u did application interface design?
depending on your product line there will be a interface designer requirements
but thats if they bought the company to operate and maintain its business as a sub.
if the company was bought out to gain software products (source, rights and license) / market share, then you should be looking.
if the upper management if looking to move in to tivoli management team, that usually means the office is gonna close.

in some cases its a good thing
i remember when EA start shopping all around north america, they bought small studios and called it EA. Ppl who had stock options in the dinky company got paid big and nice job with EA. They didnt close the office, rather they operate as a sub

ohhh yeah, don't get me wrong, I had stock in MediaSite which was bought out by Sonic Foundy which was bought out by Sony.
I've been smiling for 1.5 years because of that. Stock is where it's at.

i have a web team the works with me doing the programming, i direct and do most of the graphics for the web, and all graphics for collateral, trade shows, direct mail, promos, etc... including icons and gui design to go with our branding.
wonder if they ahve a inhouse art dept.. and if so, where are they located? i am in nyc... anyone knwo what depts they have in nyc?
they arent sharing any info with us about any of this stuff, and to top it off, my VP and SVP both left the company 2 weeks ago.
- ********0
if the VP and SVP left the company, that usually means they either got laid off via take over or got a better job with them.
if you are in the marketing dept doing mostly marketing work, then i suggest you to look for another job
- ********0
if they don't keep your unit as a sub/secondary company, there is a word I'm forgetting here, then they are going to more than likely totally rebrand everything your group does or incoporate that into their current look and feel.
that's my opinion
- ********0
if you are not core to the product dev (like interface design for software), you will be let go..
i say look for job and wait to get laid off, so you can at least get a package

Bottom line.....as long as you keep it 100% to yourself, it can't hurt to start looking. Also, as an alternative you can build a clear case study for yourself to stay on....ex: you have intimate knowledge of the brand, gui, software, etc. If nothing else, build a case study for you staying on a contract for another 6 months to a year. That will keep you employed and give you time to look for something else. It sounds like it would be an easy sell to me. But NO MATTER WHAT....start looking....even if they do take you on (perm or contract).
