hi,
I have a root/401.html and the
ErrorDocument 401 http://www/401.html
line in the htaccess, but it's not working... I've re-started apache with no luck. any hints? thanks.

so it's
http://www.yoursite.com/401.html…?
maybe give it a different name?
like errorpage404.html... instead straight numbers.mine works, but i did it a while ago and can't remember what i did..

ha, that link actually works..

yup, yours are working fine. with me, 404 is working but not 401. I don't get it.
did you changed anything in the htppd configs?

what's up neuarmy, I still got one of your stickers on my bag.

ahh sweet.
not much going on over here- keeping busy, working and being a dad now, good times man!"did you changed anything in the htppd configs?"
nah, i don't think so, but again - i did it a while ago... i'm not sure what the issue is :/

have you edite your .htaccess file you have to append the command to it
ErrorDocument 401 /401.html
put that at the end of your htaccess file and keep the 401.html in the root directory and you should be good

hey version3,
i'll try that. i'm not getting why that is different from ErrorDocument_401_http://localho...
unless the root start is stated "/" in the apache configs, but i have the http:/etc/404 running so it is weird. i'm going to check this.
*************
btw, the random bg script you sent me the other day runs smoothly. thx.

np
sorry it sems the solution i posted was the same as you had tried, i just popped off so fast when i saw the request because i just set a friends 404 up last night
- vsc0
don't be sorry :)
i've been googling for this and everyone seems to be using "/401.html"...
i must check this later on. i'm on a public pc and my files are not around me. i feel like i'm talking on a phone-booth. funny world this is coming to, Neo...

ok it's working. i had the wrong spacing in the htaccess file. it's the same thing having /401.html or the web path.

I'm having some related issues with this if anyone can help...
I have my error pages in a sub directory..
www.mysite.com/error-pages/
along with the relevant jpgsso my .htaccess reads:
ErrorDocument 404 /error_pages/404.htmlwhich is great.
my problem is with the jpg within the 404.html file.
it won't pick it up unless the jpg is in the directory mistakenly requested, but it finds 404.html no probs:
http://www.nicholasdeakin.com/im…whats the deal?
why won't it find the jpg like any normal html doc?
do I have to put a copy of the jpg in every sub-directory?
- vsc0
grr, the 401 it's not working... i was looking at the 404...
- Neuarmy0
that image showed up for me nicholas.. "headererror.jpg"
if that's what your problem is?i think what i did is float the images and pages right in the root, not in a special "error page" folder...
- vsc0
i think i got it fixed.
i have 2 .htaccess files, and one protecting a directory below. all the ErrorDocument lines must be in both, because in this 401 case the last .ht file overrides all other in parent directories.
maybe you have 2 files too, nicholas?
