Saw it for the first time last night. I didn't get it - was he gay or what? Why did he want to be Dickie so badly?

He was a gay serial killer and he wanted to take over the Greenleaf name and identity. So instead of impersonicating someone, he wanted to become Dickie. What a piece of brilliant script and screenplay. Movies like this and Sphere etc make me wanna wish i watch them, erase my memory and watch them again for the first time. And uh incredible performance by all actors and great casting.

'Sphere'?!

Yes. A good film. Definitely. Bu-rill-iant. Another mediocre Crichton book given multi-million dollar spin. One of the greats.

alternative working title:
"The Mysterious Yearning Secretive Sad Lonely Troubled Confused Loving Musical Gifted Intelligent Beautiful Tender Sensitive Haunted Passionate Talented Mr. Ripley"
directed by: Anthony Minghella = must be a decent film.
I remember watching most of it and I believe I liked it. Great acting by most. I didn't understand what was up with Damon's character at first, but figured I'd just go with the flow.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is 'da bomb" - is that how 'the kids' say it?

The Ripley Books are great, Four of them, by the late Patricia Highsmith, who also wrote the story that Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train was based upon.
[they always put that in the author synopsis].
- lofielectronic0
Or even all five of them. Whoops.
