Has anyone else read, How To Be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul?
I read it today and found it a real disapointment.

I thought it was well layed out and the information seemed mostly common sense. But I think its good for me to be reminded of the smallest details which are easy to forget and not think about.

I only read Sagmiester's foreword, and didnt find it THAT interesting...
ive made this a rule now for me... only spend money on design books tat r more than 200 pages... if a book has less pages than tat, it will most likely be shit...
ofcourse, there r some exceptions... one that comes to my mind is Carl Dair's Design with Type

there's a common mistake running around.
Graphic Design is not a profession, but a cumulative name for a number of different talents and outputs. it's not anything per se.
I wish that name could be erased really. one can be a draughtsman, and a planner, and a printer, and a coder, etc., but GD is an hoax to sell services and degrees. nothing more, except a method of doings things from long established professions ihmo.
things are changing rapidly so maybe that's why there's a fuss about it.

this site isn't even just for designers, the amount of photo, video, illustration, music, audio, film, fashion and just plain crazy ideas on here excludes this refined concept of a 'design' community...if you want your soul back stop thinking about fonts and get drunk
