QBN posted a thread re: Raising Your Rate a while back. When we don't, we see jobs with salaries like this.

That job post is pathetic.
At the same time, everytime I charge what I'm worth clients freakout and backtrack and stop calling.
I refuse to lower my rates because I'm honest with my pricing and I track my hours and plan estimates carefully.
I hate this business sometimes.

For the record... those rates are VERY low for here. Twilight zone, healthcare or not.

Yikes. My first job in design I was making 28K CDN. Was enough to live by but in the back of my mind I knew if my car broke or something else cost me big I was fuckin' sunk.

i worked for $10/hr at my first design job at this company.
http://www.in2itivegroup.com it was brutal but i needed something. Right now I make 30K which is enough for me to get through my typical routines and pay my bills. But its hard when I have other expenses such as car repairs or if i want to go on vacation. Thank god for the little freelance i do.

is there some sort of real reason why there isn't some sort of REAL union for designers?
- liquid0
buzump
- adamfinger0
I'm writing a case right now for the need for a designers union. Please get in touch with me if you feel the same way (or perhaps if you are vehemently opposed to a union) because I would love to discuss it more with other people.
- adamfinger0
PS. Liquid, if you are serious about a union, we should try to get other like-minded individuals in NYC together to discuss the possibility of one.
