What is your design prcocess (print)? I ask this question because I want to start doing print design and just need a little insight. How many concepts do you come up with for one campaign? do you have a couple personal styles that you like to use? What gets your engine revving?...you know. Basically, how do you start to conceptualize and then where do you go from there. I need to soak up some game to build confidence in my ideas.

i always start on paper. 5-20 quick sketches of various concepts. I keep going until I get the "that's it!" feeling, then rough comp it on the computer. Sometimes at that point the realization comes that "no, that's not it" and I go back to sketch pad.

Thanks gruntt, but where do you get your inspiration for a particular piece?

Where does your inspiration come from when designing for the web???
jeez, your a designer, you should be inspired by everything. If not, OPEN YOUR EYES AND MIND
- gruntt0
first and foremost, research. who's the audience? how will it be presented (brochure, ad, etc). what's the competion doing?
i then just start thinking of concepts, write them down even it they seem ridculous (might spark something else). If i feel i'm not up to snuff i'll page through design annuals, etc to get the ideas flowing.

steal from design annuals
- _salisae_0
or if you don't have enough dough for the design annuals just steal from rand
- mike-g0
I stole a keyline once from Rand...
- gruntt0
i stole Rand's soul once but i gave it back.
darkest thing i've ever seen.
- grayhood0
i stole rand's glass eye.
replaced it with a grape.
when he found out her cried wine.
he was worishiped by the villagers for the next 2000 years.
guess the jokes one me.

make sure to apply occam's razor principle in your concepting

excellent question bigface...same here. i emailed an NTer regarding this a week ago since i'm starting to get into print heavily. he was of course slacking in hawaii or something and never got back to me, that punk.
jk kOna! ;)

sounds like i might have to start steallin' then..
- mike-g0
I forgot to mention that I gave Rand his keyline back, so stealing isn't recommended, borrowing is the new orange...
