I'm trying to find out about rotoscoping techniques (see: The Waking life, or Charles Schwabb commercials). Does anyone have a write up or tutorial on how to go about achieving this effect? I have AfterFX, Combustion, and Flash at my disposal, what is my best choice?
Thanks.

Use Combustion. Its about 5000 times easier if you have access to a Smoke or Flame but I doubt that is the case, so the next best thing is Combustion.

do you have a link to the ads?

You could also contact someone at Brickyard VFX and tell them that you are a "student" looking for some advice. The owner is Dave Waller and he is in the Boston office. He is a cooky guy so he may or may not be responsive.......but these are the best guys in the biz.......Dave Waller is one of the top Flame artists in the world.......

Right on, thanks --
I am actually a "student" even though I work an 8-5 in advertising and design, I still do the night student thing so eh.. Morals withstanding, i'll contact him ;)

You can put it on auto in either program first and clean up after but unfortunately the best way to do it properly is frame by frame.

Listen to Meeklo.....my bad Tony.....I thought you were thinking of doing something with video where you were looking to remove objects or add in objects.....if you wanted a paint effect over live action then you can do that in flash.
