I don't think we'll see the kind of violent protests that have marred other WTO meetings, but if there are, I can guarantee you the Hong Kong police and PLA will not be using rubber bullets...

true nic.
hey. off topic. get your arse to the alOha thread to see the pics i posted of the surf competition from sunset beach.

i know a bunch of people going there for the talks (participants). shit will go down though- no question.
what you think they will use as anti-hippy spray, nic?
- jevad0
Well the thing is you see...that those kind of violent protests haven't happened since April 1966 - when the Star Ferry prices went up a couple of cents and people rioted using fireworks...which incidentally is why fireworks are still banned in Hong Kong to this day.
So...if there were to be some violent protests...the police would be using their hardcore riot squad, and you can bet those motherfuckers are itching to see some action....
- madirish0
wow, i didn't realize that is why they were originally made illegal.
and i bet those dudes are itchy for some action..... hope it is all peaceful but i have a feeling rising tensions will cause 'misunderstandings' of some sort.
i think it would be reallly cool to attend a WTO conference under a media pass to actually witness some of the lectures/talks firsthand.

oh yeah definately...personally I'd like to be there just so I could get in on the action and lump some crusty's...

(Dec 12 05, 09:31)nor should they. it's their jurisdiction they play by their own rules. that's mainland China now right? hahha there is no such thing as violent protests in mainland China. watch their @sses get squashed like bananas. Ahhh reality is wonderful.

Enter response:
globalization is lame... i wish there was a way that these folks could be heard w/out the violence -
I seriously couldn't tell you a solution... other than let developing countries be to their own speed...
... but if those countries have something to offer by way of resources... they better be prepared to defend themselves from the rest of the world's greed...
... it all makes me almost want to say that they should just give in... they'll live - BAH... i don't know how this can be resolved and keep everyone happy and somehow leave the little guys alone.
solutions anyone?
