Any clues? Looking at 4-6 years Art Director level. Might move. I'd love you forever.

60-90 maybe 100 depending on how good you are and the company.
if you are decent you should be able to get 70. If you are really good with really good real worl experience 90 -100
If you move dont move for less than 60-62 etc. It's expensive here.

That works. Thank you.

those are definitly Top-level agency figures. i would be suprised to see the majority of smaller shops offering 6 figures to a new director.
i would count on 70-80 for being closer to an 'average'...

(Dec 11 05, 23:30)I'm not sure how comfy you'd be with 60-62 in SF. You'd prob have to live out of the city and/or with a roommate.
I think salary.com has a salary claculator that tell you how much to expect from what and where your at now.
When I was interviewing in SF salary.com said I could expect to get paid 30% more but the cost of living was 40% more.
I didn't want to take a 10% cut in my lifestyle.

This is all really great. I'm just wondering who is dedicated to print or digital. I assume digital pays more.

Actually Ad Agencies are what pays more. Weather it is Print, TV or Web.
Design Agencies in general pay less.
There is a big difference and not many people coming out of school know this, which is a shame.
In Ad agencies there are Designers, who make less. Art Directors make more. Art Directors mainly come up with ideas, Direct how the thing is going to look, present to clients etc. Art Directors sometimes design but most of the traditional art directors give direction to their team of designers to bring the project to life.
In Digital many Art Directors do design and Art Direction.
Hope this helps some.

Totally does. Yeah the Art Directors in Chicago Advertising are the same. And like you said the Digital guys tend to design as well as concept. There seem to be differenced in pay from agency to agency and between print and web. Hm..
I checked out magazines too. Quite a lot of good stuff going on in SF. That might be a whole other avenue.
Thanks again.

65-75 avg depending on size of shop
80-90 if you're a rockstar
whoever said living on 60 in the city is hard doesn't know what they're talking about... unless you have a kid or want to pay more than $1500 in rent every month
- SamWu0
Hm. Well I would probably settle at about 75 minimum from the sounds of it. I've been to SF a lot. And my take was that it was pretty pricey if you'd like to do nice things anyway. Hm..

you can do fine with 65. I wouldnt make your minimum 75. you might be in for dissapointment.
If you find a roomate or something you can save alot of money also.
But you can rent a 1 bedroom and still live just fine with 65.
Or you could commute from Berkley or something and save even more.
