I was just looking at the new features of Flash 8:
http://www.macromedia.com/softwa…Most of them seem to be related to design, video and mobile platfroms rather than development.
Do you think that there is a shift toward the focus of Flash changing while Flex becomes their main application development platform?
I am a bit confused about it. If Flash is supposed to be a RIA development program why would someone use Flex instead?

Don't any of you masters of Flash have an opinion on this.

always flash before flexing.

Flesh is targeted more for Developers.
I have the feeling that flash eventually will end up in Designers hands (Banners, Flash sites, animation) and Flex for the Developer (Applications, RIA, Desktop Apps).
my 2 cents.

Flex is for enterprise level development (no, not the Star Trek ship). Flex allows RIA integration with applications that use SAP, Oracle and other enterprise level data models.
Flex is an application server. Just like Flash Communcation Server, you'll need to pay a hefty sum to run it.
Macromedia/Adobe introduced it to compete with Java and J2ME.
If you're a designer/developer, I wouldn't bother with it. If you're a developer, it might be worth the trouble learning.

I've heard it said that Flash 8 is more of a design release, just as Flash MX 2004 was mostly a programmer release (AS 2, not many new design aspects, etc.).
Look to flash 8.5 to be more of a programmer release again with AS 3 (available in the new handful of months i believe...).
