I have an old 12" record I would like to put onto MP3. I do not have any specialist equipment, so I was wondering if there is a cheap and easy way to do it.
or
If anyone would like to do it for me ???

Check out griffin technolgies website.
I bought a turntable adapter thing, can't remember what it was called, but it plugs right into my powerbook.
it was like 12 bucks

the biggest problem is the preamp for the turntable-signal.
if you have an amplifier with a 'rec out', connect this with your line-in on your computer. otherwise you need a phono preamp.
record with some program and compress with an mp3-codec (LAME is good).

it's easier than you think.
Line in your record player into your computer. Windows XP will pick up most digital machines, such anything from Techniques or Stanton. Stanton's are very nice for this. Use some sort of software that will pick up that feed. Sony's Sound Forge, etc. Record that input. Master and edit. Save. _done

BTW, part of what I do on the side is audio conversion and mastering. I do it for a lot of churches in my local area and they have big money. Very, very easy extra cash.
Long live the Byzantine Empire!

I use my sony MD recorder, but the bitch is getting the audio off, since you need a PC, no dice on a MAc...

It's picking up good vibrations...

turntable >> mixer >> stereo rca cable >> pc & use soundforge to record. there are plenty of wav editor plug ins to master the sound. your sound card and decent needles will make a huge difference in regards to sound quality.
if need more help let me know.

I can do it for you w/o a problem. I've got turntables, mixer, amp, etc (I'm a dj - hence having the equipment).

Thanks for all the feedback people. No time to send it to the US JazX or I would. I need to do it this Weekend, I have a powerbook and Audio Hi-jack, will that work? I just need the one track so it's no point buying any additional equipment..

What's the song? I may be able to just get it for you
