I find that people lack responsiblity of taking and making things your own. People see it just as a job or relationship. its quick and easy to blame others or events to justify, rather than taking ownership.

what ever happen to loyalty, honor and sacrifice? is it that our generation is so self centered that we fail to see the greater good?

    thought?

    It comes down to productivity.
Yu've got to be able to churn it out without becoming too emotionally attached and sensitive to work/things!!
Its living in a fast paced demanding world!!

    Thought!!

    indeed!

I find myself wonder why so many people are like that .. specially in the creative world. Looking like lack of interest in their job. show up at 9, walk out at 5 and forgot all about what they have done the paste 9 hours. My mind never gets off work even though I'm not there.

Don't know.. guess people get burned out quick these days and just wanna get the best out of it.

for a job.. its easy to blame the projects, clients and account people..

but its what you make out of it. if you are truely creative, you can make anything creative.

not everything that you will work on will be Nike

" show up at 9, walk out at 5 and forgot all about what they have done the paste 9 hours. My mind never gets off work even though I'm not there."
    --

it all depends on your job, sure if you work on projects that excite you creatively you cant help but think about them after the 9-5...

some days i work on such boring crap that i purposefully delete the last 9 hours from my memory bank.

I think people in general are more complacent these days. No matter what background, career etc people look for the easiest solution or easiest way out. Its laziness!!

trust me man, most of the work that i do are not the most exciting..............

when ever i get a chance, i try to make things better... but most of the times, i just try to get stuff out the door with out thinking

  • dablammit0

I've got to agree with Blackspade on this one...it's hard to stay dedicated every day about every project. At my current job, our biggest client is...Hooters...stop laughing. I'm still young and trying to finish up my education, so working at a place that I'm absolutely in love with is okay for right now.
However, that doesn't mean I don't put any effort into my work; I have fun with quite a few of the projects and really do work hard and making them the best they can be.
But design is like any other profession; sometimes working is just a drag, just like life.
Being at least 10 years my senior, you should know this. ;)

reading this made me smile the other day.......

"--Can I pursue happiness in design?--

-Working on projects that matter to me.

-Thinking about ideas and content freely – with the deadline far away.

-Working without interruption on a single project.

-Using a wide variety of tools and techniques.

    -Traveling to new places.

-Having things come back from the printer done well.

    -----------------------------

--Things I have learned in my life so far--

Complaining is silly. Either act or forget.

Thinking life will be better in the future is stupid, I have to live now.

Being not truthful works against me.

    Helping other people helps me.

Everything I do always comes back to me.

Drugs feel great in the beginning and become a drag later on.

Over time I get used to everything and start taking it for granted.

Money does not make me happy.

Traveling alone is helpful for a new perspective on life.

    Assuming is stifling.

Keeping a diary supports my personal development.

Trying to look good limits my life.

    Worrying solves nothing.

Material luxuries are best enjoyed in small doses.

Having guts always works out for me."

    nice posting blackspade..

i could never be philosophical about design.. i cant carry on about artsy aspect of design..

i find that kind of conversation very convertiluted (wrong spelling and too lazy to check it) and meaningless..

  • blackspade0

    i dunno man

i think they are just genuine points and notes that he has made for himself over time (most of which during a year he had completely free of client work) according to his presentation.

..the first few points arent entirely philosophical at all, just meaningful truths for himself i guess

one just takes from it what you will (?) certainly not meaningless

Our generation is raised getting the feeling we are the center of the earth.

I grew up in Denmark where everything is payed for by the government .. Hell, I even got 1K a month when I was studying for my degree..and it's not a student loan you have to pay back. Everybody get 6 years with this pay, so I actually still got a year or two left I can spend anywhere in the world going to school. I could move to China and live like a king going to school for free.. !! Insane!

About 6 years ago I got so fed up with the silverspoon Denmark stuck up my ass, that I pulled it out and moved to Toronto for 6 months to try living the real way... the hard way.. and it sure gave me a different look at thing. It was tough and allot of hard work, but I learned some things and they still sticks with me.

Guess what I'm trying to say, is that most people live with a safety net and take things for granted. So it's easy to get stuck and blame everything on others.

yes blackspade i totally agree with you..

i dont find his point meaningless

i think he is in position to say that cause he is who he is..

i was saying overll all, i cant talk about artsy stuff ... cause most of the people who talk about stuff dont know what they are talking about and do not have work to back it up.......

    either case..

yeah i guess i am just ticked off at people in general

but yes after rereading it gave me more insight.. from experienced veterin of design

thanks again for posting his comment

i feel like crying i think need theoropy

I think its relative to the individual and the value behind something. Personally, it is about making change. In Canada, advertising and marketing seems to be thrown together like a pot of cabbage soup, thin, no flavor and expendable. (for the most part - not everything) One of the reasons I enjoy the internet, is because it's an advantage point to see where the rest of the world is situated.

It makes for a difficult challenge, educating clients who have never seen or heard of simpler, tasteful and yet effective methods to communicate. That challenge, I see as positive, and negative, because the process sometimes does take longer. Especially if you are building something to have a shelf life, and not drown in the immediate future.

As I get older, it's fascinating to watch trends and the youth be attracted to various types advertising and genres. It's easier to understand opposed to when I was young, trying to absorb everything that was thrown at me. As an example, the movie New York, New York... all the average person would have in their apartment or home, would be a crappy television, maybe a piano, or some instrument and each other, their family. As a whole, for society, we sometimes fail to communicate with each other, maybe because of the amount of distractions we have on a daily basis. I find it hard to believe with the technology and abundant resources we have today, people can still get bored. If that is the case, I figure society is rather spoiled at best.
