Friendsofed always has good books on Flash. This one should be good http://www.friendsofed.com/books…. I bought "Advanced PHP for Flash" a while ago and I'm using XML to the max ever since...

I got ActionScripting by Phillip Kerman & the FOD "Flash 3d cheats most wanted".

it depends on what you are going to do with the knowledge.
DO you just want to be able to import XML and manage content? or do you want flash to talk to XML create the XMLs on the fly and such?
if you want the basics you can go by just reading sites no need to purchase a book

This is for mx's christmas wish list. To be honest I have no idea what he wants to do with xml and flash. He just wanted me to bump the thread and let him know of any suggestions.
I'm sure he will be on in a bit anyway.

Cheers skt, you sir are a true legend.
Thanks one and all for your answers. I can get all the things I want to work working more or less I just want to have like a reference to check on without having to find a tutorial and pick out the relevant parts etc... also to understand more the potential and scalability of XML in Flash. Flex is the one I am going to turn my hand to next after I've got AS 2.0 better sussed and from what I've seen XML plays a huge role there so it seems like a good direction to take for me.
I've got Kerman's book too toulouz (welcome back old buddy!) along with a few other good ones...
I also thought about this book.. anyone got experience of it??

personally I don't think a book for xml is required.
just an understanding of its structure.
http://www.xml.com/pub/a/98/10/g…should focus on parsing dynamically content AS xml:
. mysql > php > xml > flash [flash||xslt]
. dir > php > xml > [flash||xslt]
. . .
