A friend recently informed me that Flash (the plugin) does not work on 64 Bit platforms.
I wonder how the situation will be handled during the transition period from 32 Bit to 64 Bit platforms. Are we going to see pages with links that read "If you're 32 Bit, go here. If you're 64 Bit, go here instead"?
That would be annoying.

no kidding?
this is the first I've heard of this...
... but aren't the G5's from the last year on a 64bit processor?
what about all the folks that have been rocking their amd chips for the last year...
... i think you may have heard a rumor... or... I HOPE you may have heard a rumor.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, "Duke". Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on "Duke" where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think "Invisible Touch" was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion". In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. "In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like "In the Air Tonight" and "Against All Odds". But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. "This is Sussudio", a great, great song, a personal favorite.

G5 is dual 32.
The person who told me has a 64 Bit AMD processor.

wow... disturbing news... i've poured the last two years into learning flash...
... this is upsetting...

G5 is native 64 bit. It can perform multiple simultaneous 64-bit floating-point and integer calculations.
Instead of doing a+b it is doing a+b*c
And flash works on 64 bit platforms, but not on CURRENT 64 bit browsers. Don't worry, things will change soon.

I was going to say that!

thanks for clearing that up. so i guess its just the people with AMD for now? flash works on G5s, i'm assuming...?

this is PonyBoy - I'm at cosmo's... we're doing 'our thing'...
... anyway - I was too lazy to log in as me - but I wanted to clarify that cosmo's machine IS a 64bit chip by AMD...
... and everything flash is delicious and smooth and fully exists... sooooooo - this rumor is poop.
PonyBoy - out.

works fine on my 64 bit machine.

YOOO, Patrick B. is in da house
what's happening
- ********0
for it not to work on 64 bit, would mean that 64 bit cant handle what 32 bit can...
use logic

Do you like Phil Collins?
snap matty, that was truly funny.
thank you.

okay the PROCESSORS are 64-bit but the software running on them aren't 64-bit only. OS X 10.4 is optimized for the 64-bit G5 processor but it also runs on the regular 32-bit ones. If I'm not mistaken, Dystopiapop meant that Flash, as a plugin, wouldn't work on 64-bit PLATFORMS, meaning the inclusion of the operating system as 64-bit-only, right?
- cereals0
Flash only runs on 32bit (pc) for the moment, the browser you'll being using to see flash in will be running the flash at 32bit...
bingo!

I have a 64 Bit AMD processor. It works fine.

Thanks mattyd. I needed that.
