inhaler,
i hear you on the dropdown. i jsut felt it was a quick and efficient way for people to get to the work. i wanted the least amount of clutter on the site that i could achieve. just felt the dropdown was the most effective/minimal way of doing it.

The work on the site is really nothing but a formal style being applied to whatever happens to be the subject. Just because something is made on a computer and looks 'cool' doesn't mean its graphic design.

(Dec 1 05, 22:06)i still see how you define bad work. or def of graphic design.
i think you are more referring to more personal opion rather than disection of the work it self.
- fresnobob0
Ok. Cool. So what should I do first?

(Dec 1 05, 22:08)i seen worst crit from an art prof than that.
"i dont like this"
"why"
"it just doesnt work"
"how so"
"it just doesnt"
"tell me i can fix it"
"i dont think this is design"
"so what is design"
"are you gonna just keep arguing with me?"o wait. thats me at work

think about composition and balance. usage of type and colors and treatment.
rather the theme communicates the message. rather the theme works along with the over all composition.
discuss, the technics used can be improved or not.
etcetc

jeff, i really like the piece you did for microsoft. judging by the description, i can really see it working in your design.

one thing i learned...
there are brilliant concepts
there are brillaint treatmentsa brilliant concepts with out good treatment does not have lasting effect
a brilliant treatment with out good concept is nothing but an eye candy that subside when the trend passes.
a brillant concept and treatment, lasts forever.

i agree. just today i was looking through some of rands work at the boston public library.
so inspirational and it completely stands the test of time. there's something to be said of the use of simplicity in his work.

cont from above
alot of times, designers tend to mix those things up. they believe treatment is concept. and vice versa.
i always follow this rule. when i drawn to it by its treatment, and get the concept / message immediately, i like it.
if i have to think about it, then it belongs in an art gallery

that was a piece i did as a proposal as a way to make people reflect more than think. the concept of it was to make the viewer realize how dire the situation is. the treatment was to convey this in the most simple way possible.

(Dec 1 05, 22:21)midn you the times are changing, we are overwhelmed with good work that we have been desensitized. nothing is new fresh or cool anymore. there are few who stick to their craft and sets the trend. most of us are mear followers of the design trend.
best way to tell if it is a good design is to see it again, after few years.

(Dec 1 05, 22:09)Is it really posible to say for a 'fact' that anything having to do with aesthetics or concepts is right, or wrong? Of course not because its impossible to quantify such things as absolute.
As to the work, because it lacks originality, it has to be a simply fucking amazing itteration of whatever it happens to be refrencing, which its not.
