Who is your client? That will largely determine your price.

i like the 250 idea, find me the finest currency! Yens no good though, thatd be 20p!
Yeah Princess st, I like your research skills!
- Jnr_Madison0
So you proposed round the back of Princes Street eh?

250
in some denomination of some country

yeah all true, I'm thinking good exposure, i keep the pice and the rights to it so maybe quite a small price. Like you say, to charge more than the piece its self seems strange, but even if they bought it I would retain all copyright...a grey area I think. Back to the dart board!

you just really gotta ask yourself what you want.. more so if you consider yourself an 'artist'... how big is the piece? do you want it to be used on cards? do you need it to be used on cards? is this person your friend or is it a cold-call?
if it was a friend or seemed like good exposure i might ask for a relatively small amount ($300?) and make sure i got good credit on the back. a designer's audience is prolly good exposure.
+ if its a small piece, and you sell similar works for $500 framed, then its kinda tough to ask that for 1x use on an xmas card.

Start high and work down raspo you nonce
- craigatkinson0
pffft! rasko, who are you, brian sewell or rolf harris?
- rasko40
"would really consider myself an artist"
pfffft
lets see the drawing, I'll tell you what it's worth.
I think jevad is dreaming with that 500
- jevad0
500 squid?
- craigatkinson0
would really consider myself an artist, if that includes illustration then so be it. 300 cards, sound like christmas cards to be sent out free to patrons of the place. I keep copyright and they will only use the image for this job
- ldww0
how much is the most you think he will pay... that is generatlly where i start...
- horton0
what kind of cards? how many are being made/ distributed? whats the business? do you consider yourself an 'illustrator'... ?
- craigatkinson0
thanks!
