good fonts, bad fonts

So I've stupidly overloaded my computer with fonts. I have something like 500, most of which I don't use. Different collections, I bought one of those software cds, yada yada, I have too much.
Does anyone know what fonts I need to keep...I mean which fonts are standard systems fonts? Once I figure that out I can then trash and sort the ones I don't use.
Oh, and I've tried using fontbook or suitcase, but with over 500 fonts, it runs so slow!
Much thanks in advance.

Thanks! Just read the 10.4 list...
So does that list mean I should keep all of those and get rid of my other fonts (if I choose too) or do I only need to keep those fonts on the list that cannot be disabled?
I'm a little clueless on this and I don't want to mess things up.
One time, I accidentally dragged those 500 fonts onto my dock, ACCIDENTALLY, and I started removing them 1 by 1. It took forever, and the dock would hardly move. Luckily I found someone with a blog on the probelm (guess I'm not the only one that dumb) and it was fixed in a sec.

"do I only need to keep those fonts on the list that cannot be disabled?"
Correct.

DAMMIT! So for the most part, I'm doing ok sorting fonts, but I just opened the Mail app and while the fonts are loading, the top part of the e-mail (the TO:, FROM:, SUB:, etc.) is totally misaligned.
Any suggestions on how to fix it? I could send a screen shot if that helps...

Check your Mail prefs. Use Lucida Grande or Helvetica.
