im using SWT actually, which has a nice little tray class, though it doesnt work in OSX unfortunately. im gonna see if i can find a way around that.

eclipse is an abstracted IDE, it was developed to use with Java and is written in Java, but there are plugins to use it for pretty much every language out there.
