ooo, tough call...
You want something that's good, around $1500, and looks like an apple but runs as a PC? that's what all PC people want :)I'd say alienware if i knew the prices, otherwise you'd be solid with Asus or a Dell. You're not going to find a decent toshiba or sony for that sorta money... consider holding off and spending another $500... if u can...

a used vaio

hey isnt $1500 just exactly what you outrageously charged me for those banner rotation scripts back in 2000?
I'm never going to forget you know.. :P

I had similar criteria when I bought the vaio I'm currently using to write this on. Could I find a beautiful machine anywhere? Not really, but my S2XP is understated and kind of mean looking - kind of how I imagine Darth Vader's laptop might look.
Except, I guess the key layout would be larger to account for his pudgy be-gloved fingers.
And there'd be a big red button in the middle, which upon depressing would make good people feel queasy - as if there'd been some massive distrubance in the force.
There, you've made me talk shit now. More tea, please vicar.

how's that for the nicest way to say "fuck you"?

Asus W3V. It's a 14" widescreen made by the same company that manufactures a lot of apple's portables. Solid, small, fast. I love it.

i wouldn't buy sony. it's hard to customize their machine and all that stupid installation disks.
i was gonna get sharp. but now i think i am gonna go with thinkpad. maybe i'll order one later today.

No. The banner rotation scripts were, and still are, free. You asked me how much I would charge to install them. I said $1200. You said OK, and sent me a check.
The next time you don't want to pay $1200 for something, say "no".
I'm glad I'm unfogettable.

i ordered that thinkpad just now.

I must admit, I wouldn't ever expect to fiddle with the internals of a laptop - especially a $1500 one. That's more the domain of a high-ender or desktop, no? At least, if you want to maintain some aesthetic balance - not have some 3" deep brick to work on.

just got a ThinkPad and i'm loving every second of it. It's not IBM anymore, but still a quality piece of hardware. Kind of pricey, but it's good to know it's not going to crap out on me.
