stay persistent with your direction, strong examples support your idea.

all of what everyone (as well as you) said so far is good..but try this:
go grab another co-worker (the more random, the better) and ask them their opinion on which of the two they either remember best (maybe show it to them for a few seconds) or which they prefer. proof by example of others, if your boss is not willing to listen to you, almost always makes the case (assuming they agree with you of course, lol )

show her some good swiss stuff where the typography and the minimalism of the text fit nicely. Plenty of that has great white space.
If that doesn't work, just say "white space, shite face!"

Show her two examples; one of cluttered edge to edge type and one of clean white space.

I had that once, I was told "the more you tell the more you sell"
I told them to stick it. Stupid marketing grads.

i used to play an internet game using the nick "whitespace" and a few folks flamed me, saying I was racist.

What's the project? Print? Web?
There's no rule to say you need white space for a great design... maybe you don't need to win this battle with your boss?

If she doesn't get it and she's your boss... give up.
