ok. I know this has been discussed a bit...but I need advice. I have to upgrade my 550mhz apple PB...it's SLOW. If Apple is coming out with a new chip within a year I don't want to invest in a G5 desktop so...
I'm thinking of buying either a small PB, a Mac Mini with a 20" flat screen, or a 20" iMac. If I go with iMac I can get a G5. What should I buy?
I mostly do interactive design with some print work here and there.

What do you use it for? A "small pb" versus a "20" flat screen" is like day and night. Why not a 17" PB?

i am going thru the same thing, i have a G3 laptop and i am waiting for the next gen pb.
since i have been so behind the times as far as technology is running i feel that i want the best and the most i can afford.
since i have waited for so long in upgrading i feel it doesnt matter which system i get because every one out there is faar greater than what i have currently.
my problem is figuring out 17 or 15 pb, but with the new intl puters maybe these new pb's will be stronger or better than the G4 currents.
i suggest that if you arent waiting for the new intel pb.s then go out and get the G5 tower. do not get the cube.
the imacs are cool looking too with a great monitor size.
each one is great!
decisions!!!! we both have!

wow, e-pill, you've been working on a g3 all this time?! I'm impressed.
I just hate to get a G4 PB and then have it become obsolete in two years. I've had my 15" PB for almost 5 years and it's just now starting to show it's age.
My thinking is that if I get a Mac Mini and flatscreen at least the monitor will carry over but will the mini be too slow for me?

i am in the same situation.
i've got 4yr old pb. and an old desktop pc. since i do a lot of flash, i am thinking to get a pc laptop for now. then get mac pb late next year.having both pc and mac is so essential to me.

i have a 3gig harddrivee with 754megs of free space like 100megs ram and the internal battery is completely fried, i am running off the wall socket for power and the slightest movement of the laptop and the puter shuts off!!!
it suks!!!! plus i can only have 1 program running at a time. so i have to constantly open and close progams...and also restart countless times.

the imac will work out to about the same as the mini and monitor. it's a great machine too.
if you're doing mainly interactive, why not a pc?

omg...that's endurance!!! I'm not far behind you...I have to re-plug my laptop in every half hour because it continuallyl says my battery is about to tank.
Oh what we do for love! ;)
I think I might go with the 20" iMac. Although I love the idea of getting a mini mac ($699) and a 20" flatscreen ($799) but then I'm stuck with a G4.
It sucks to be an indecisive gemini. :/-

for me i dont want any regrets...like if these new machines that come out next year actually prove valuable then i would have to upgrade in the future once again.
so ill wait, and see.
and save my cash for PS3!!:)
