I am doing a comparitive essay on design principles of IKEA vs that of the Bauhaus. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good website or book that would help me on this subject?
thanx

good question, i wonder if there are even articles relating to this?
have you used google?
also, i would think there is more literature talking about the latter (bauhaus) and furniture/life/design/industry than the former.
id search for some older articles about bauhaus and use them to define/illuminate what IKEA is doing.

I hope you are not trying to suggest that these two may have similar ideals?

not especially, was just interested to know what you were thinking.
I dont think they have similar thoughts at all.
- doesnotexist0
yeah, now that i think about it, youre probably right.
but they both look cool! eh?
- tank0
haha.
they have very similar thoughts actually.
make design affortable for the masses.that was the concept behind bauhaus.ikea commercialised this(after it all, it is a company that treis to make a profit)
before ikea, there was nothing 'designty for the middleclass...and now there is.
that was the concept behind the whole arts and crafts movement and thus also after bauhaus.

anything would be better than the disgusting jonathan adler stuff I mean it is all utterly horrible!!!!! The chair is disgusting also.
*shudders

its all a bit heavy..eh that jonothan adler stuuff....

you are kidding me.
- tank0
jonothan adler designs for the wanna be gangstas and bling adepts...
the term minilism( abit of a bummer) is kinda strange...
minimalism is a term that also can be apllied to very decorative style like art nouveau(wich i'm very found of)..its know ing where and how to use the elements of your design.

I am not even going to argue beyond this but the bauhaus movement were striving to create a new fine arts and crafts movement, they were not about creating cheap, nasty, flat packed MDF garbage.
- tank0
raslo;they where strivng to bring cheap design to the middleclas inthe form of pakkets that the people can build them theyre selves.
in that way thats the original concept of ikea.ikea COMMERCIALISED this.
- chossy0
but you do agree about adler don't you rasko?, yes of course you do
*taps fingers together like I know what I am on about.
- tank0
i wrote a paper about this in school...will try to find this.
- jox0
