The way I would do it is first find an image of a brain (top view).
> search google image search type in "brain top view"
> http://images.google.co.uk/imageā¦
> choose one of the images

> you now have an image to work from.
> trace round the various wiggles in illustrator (outline only)
> you can either mess around in illustrator with gradients and the result will look a bit pants, unless you're the guy who drew all the flowers for the splash screen of Illustator CS
> Or you can draw all the brain mush in photoshop using your google image for colour reference.

I thaught about Photoshop, but i would prefare a solution in Illustrator..
i ll try around with the gradient mesh a bit more..
i also try around with the bevel and emboss...maybe that can do the job!?

take a pencil and dash around your forehead, get a skil saw and 4 throw-away cameras. Bevel and emboss your will.

- draw it with a pencil on paper, scan and shade in PS.
- or take an image like baskerville's, convert to vectors with Live Trace and tweak from there.
