I can almost guarantee that any free font is going to make you look amateur.

Typo,
i dont agree with that statement. there are some shiiit fonts in there but there are also some pretty decent ones too.
You dont need a good font to build a brand .... take Yahoo, Google, NT (lol) as some examples ;)

Most fonts that are available for free font sites are either:
1. stolen fonts from foundaries (which they will legally go after you if you use their fonts without buying them)
2. crappy fonts
3. decorative fonts
Shop around online, look at books and rely on GOOD FOUNDARIES for inspiration/ideas. It's tedious, but it'll be worth the effort and time because you'll know a lot more about what's out there, and you'll end making a better choices.

Yes, there are some decent freebies. But fewer than 50 I'd wager. That's not much of a selection.
Touché on Google and Yahoo. But the product made the brand on those, not the logos. We may see them outgrow their childish logotypes in the next couple years.

Times new roman is a beautiful font.

i refuse to answer a post asking for something hip. Doh! I'm typing!

I think the "hip font" is not the issue here. Listen, a word in your shell-like and don't let on you know, but chrome effect bevels are THE cool thing this year, just you watch.
