okay, this is under the radar of my current employer, but no one in the company hangs in this circle but me, so it's as safe as can be.
to the point, i'm living in nyc (astoria), and working as sr. desiger for a IT consultant firm based out of Ohio. i've been with them a year and the work's been challenging and fairly satisfying, until recently that is. i'm starting to get a pretty clear picture of the creative limitations of my employer and the markets they target, and it's pretty bleak. even internally, the high-level creative decisions are arbitrarily handed down from my boss, and he typically has no time and/or patience to allow for my feedback.
so i'm wondering if anyone can tell me if i'd be happier working for a firm here in nyc? i've got just under a decade of experience working in every aspect of web production. i cut my teeth doing html and slowly migrated to exclusively design over the years. my interests right now are in high-level branding definition and execution, but more than that, i want to work in a fun, creative environment. i've been working remotely for over a year now, and i'm really starting to get cabin fever.

in a word, yes.

The last bit you said is the most important, I think. If you've got cabin fever, get out... it rarely gets any better once you're in that sort of position...

I was in the same position quite recently. Get out before things tourn sour...your creativity and career will stagnate...seek the greener pastures. I did and have never been happier...

I had cabin fever when I lived in the midwest, glad I got the hell out of there.

after the news on this morning with mayor bloomberg proposing the Commuter Tax back again, that if you ae moving jobs, make sure you hhave it in nyc and not away or else you are going to get hit with that tax for no reason, just because you live here and work somewhere else. and vice versa!
its the worst tax ever!!! on top of city and state taxes on us nyc people get!
so where is everyone in astoria?
im 31st ave 44th street.

there are many good companies in nyc. if you live in nyc, why not try to work them?

why not atleast go out and look around. you do not have to quit right now, shop around and see what you can find. chances are there is something that can satisfy you better.
i can testify that you should go on your instincts. i was working for a company (which moved me to ny) for 2+ years and it was looking shakey. i decided to stick it out and they ended up folding. long stoey short, i was unemployeed for over a month but found a kick ass job even better then the one before. and i got it from of all places craigslist!
