So let's start a new topic.
"Design vs. Style"

(Nov 11 05, 13:46)i'll start. style does not equal design. design is a set of fundamental principles that style is applied to.

the pvn obviously isnt the place for this kind of discourse

"Design vs Style"
"i'll start. style does not equal design."
What exactly is the f *** question??!
These are two different things with very broad meanings. Next we'll be back on the old 'art vs design'...

it comes down to the fact that even if there were a handful of people willing to debate this subject, the average intellect of those people is so low that it makes the excercise a complete waste of time.
- frankiefido0
ribit, the question was asked in a 2A thread. that is why.
- Rand0
it seems like the question is too general to have any meaning
- ribit0
but what exactly IS the question?
- trev0
they go hand in hand.
however, you can infringe copyright on one of them.
- F_180
ribit, it seems people confuse the 2 quite a bit, no?
and if you read the first post, it was a statement for discussion, not a question.
- frankiefido0
its the age old debate of stylists vs designers... basically.
- Rand0
do you mean that people confuse so-called "timeless" vs "trendy" design, or that they confuse the noun "design", which results from the verb "design" and the noun "style" which describes an aspect of the noun "design"?
- ribit0
I just find these topics so (amusingly) vague.... partly because a lot of people here have such a narrow definition of design (and style) based only on their particular sub-field of design...makes the discussion sort of meaningless..but hey its the PVN..
- Rand0
I'm with you

Okay. The reason I threw this out, is because so many times, people in our industry do confuse the two. I admit that we all have a certain style to our design solutions or art. But when it because the recipe for and crutch to everything we do, then we need to reevaluate our roll and skills we are selling.
- F_180
rand - all of the above.
- moosesyrup0
D5ive, gives us an example..
- ribit0
what industry is that?
