.Mac is way , but useful if you want to keep like 3 Macs in synch (bookmarks, mail accounts, all sorts of stuff)

so if i'm using iChat does that mean I have a .mac account? i remember signing up when I got my powerbook but I don't remember if it was the 60-day trial or not.
i want to see what iDisk is all about.

no.. iChat can use AIM screenames or .Mac usernames
If you look in Preferences > Accounts it shows you the account type.. (who would have thought!)

i dig it. i love the backup program that comes with it, very easy to use. and yeah, having .mac with multiple machines is quite handy.
i think the backup program is worth it alone. retrospect is the same price but not as user friendly.

Retrospect can do lots more stuff though (like really advanced filtering and backup server/client stuff)
I'm using Retrospect for a small workgroup, and .Mac for personal accounts n stuff.

I like the .Mac interface for mail (webmail) and use the Mail app. coming with OSX. The filesharing in "homepage" in .Mac is something I also use quite a bit. It works nicely with your iDisk. lots more features to check out.
