Best monitor for the money or .......
- ribit0
I think so...just got one on offer.. £600 ish incl VAT
Features compared to the Cinema display: goes up and down, rotates, has 5(!) different input connectors, Picture in Picture (for video input only)...
I'm running a Dell laptop and a MacMini on it. It seems great apart from being too bright (currently set on zero and its stil ltoo bright), and the black seems a bit purple next to my Cinema 23" display.
It does some weird things switching when switching between nVidia desktops (switching between dual screen, laptop only, display only modes), but I think thats a Windows problem...

i have this:

its amazing, but i guess you are looking for something larger. go with a lg they make the best panels. also no dead pixels.

Yup, it's amazing.
I've been tempted to get another, but my other 20" LCD is still pretty good (Dell too).
But those $1200 for a computer AND the 2405 offers they've had recently look damn tempting!

How annoying:
US Price: $959
UK Price: £942*sigh

Not at all - just annoyed.
'specially as I missed the recent Dell sale where they were offering them for around £600.
*sigh

Any thoughts or comments? Think the DELL would be better?

davit, tell me about this Dell smart business?

Well, I opened a Dell Small Business account to make a pretty large purchase: Dual Cpu Workstation...the works..cost me over 16K. I guess when I made an account they signed me up for a newsletter. Then the next fucking day I got an email with a deal for Buy One Get One Free for one of these monitors in which I was planning to purchase two anyways. What are the chances of that. But then I've seen these deals every two months or so. Seems like Dell Small Business has the same shit as the Home Office stuff but cheaper through these emails that I get every other day. I'd sign up for them if I were you. They've got some pretty awesome deals on there.

i think i have heard that both Apple and Dell get their displays made at LG?

can these monitors be color acurate for printing?
- mbr0
davi-t - I've had a business account for ages, but have never received any emails....gonna have to look into that.
That Sony looks good, but look at Dell's 20". I got mine for about $430, including shipping and tax. It's easily as good as the Sony. If you have a newer graphic card, look at their 20" widescreen (better contrast/refresh) and they are usually around $400 with coupons - you could have two of them for $100 more than the Sony.

I'm considering getting one myself.
I'm a little concerned about color accuracy - so I'm just gonna putz around with my friend's to make sure I like it before I buy.
Realistically, it's probably more accurate than my current Mitsubishi CRT which has a grey-ish cast . . .

I got one, used it for 2 days, and sold it. The brightness is way too high and the blacks do look more like purple.
Color is very important to me, in my opinion, this monitor is cheap... because it is.
- driftlab0
ok, so I've narrowed my search down to the Dell and the Mac cinema of the same size.
Opinions?
- davi-t0
colors on my dell look great. blacks are definitely not purple. He may have got one that was shited on. Check PC World a few mos ago...it got great reviews.
- ribit0
I havent noticed the purple so much...but what I do notice is that on the Dell, large dark areas (especially) get a lot lighter when you look from an angle (sideways), while on the Cinema display the same dark areas stay the same color... seems like the backllight technology is diffferent?
- ribit0
anyone whos asking if Apple and Dell are actually the same screen...seems definitely not. Way different backlighting going on...I'm sure they have different spec if you can find full tech specs.... both good displays though..I have both on one desk...both good buys.
