HELP – Small gifs and IE

PC IE users please look at both these links, these are 2 images (right at the top) with the same gif in the first is 10px tall and sits flush on the top of the window the second is 7px tall and sits approx 3px from the top of the window.
Why do gifs smaller than 10px automatically sit away from the edge.
I'm tearing my hair out here.
Please help if you know a work around?
