well i posted yesterday the 'DEAD MAC' thread and my internal mac HD indeed dead.
this is my question . 3 options
1 . buy new internal hd for a older g3 ibook
2. buy a new g4 power book 15"
all silver fast and shiny and new.
3. wait till the new x86 chip laptops come out and possibly have problems with the new processors...whats the thought out there ?

maybe a used G4 15" is best value? (I'm selling one with 1 yr of Applecare still left... UK)

not 1 unless it's dirt cheap.
2 - dunno
3 - dunno
4 - good luck sorry about your computer

consider your current apps as well...I believe I read that all current OS X apps will run under, but with a slight performace hit from the "Rosetta" emulation.

If you got the money by a new one and sell it before the next apple expo.

what does your old mac think of this? maybe you two should sit down and express your feelings.

how old is ur mac? i would just get a new hd they are like 165bucks, instal it yourself.. thats what i did.. not hard... also get a external hd "buy a 300gig" for like 129bucks Tigerdirect.ca and then buy a case for like 40bucks = like around 350Can.

#2. buy a new powerbook. walk away from the G3 and be happy that you got so much life out of it.
it makes no sense to spend any more loot on old technology. and to hold on till who knows for apple to drop the intel books? we all have to wait to see how the intel hardware transition goes before jumping... [i think]
you'll shit a brick over the new pb's. gorgeous. i'm on last years and still loving mine.

My new 17" Powerbook is on the way. After much consideration I decided it was the best route to take and hooked it up. I was torn between it and the 20" iMac. It's a tough call, but I'm hoping I went the right route (Carty makes me feel better about it).

I would spend up to 100$ on a new HD keep your existing as stable backup.
and get new 15" or a 12" with a separate 20" monitor.
I am on last years 12" with a second screen .. with a 14" G3 ibook i picked up on Craigslist for 200 bucks ..as standby backup... the battery was supposed ly dead but after a few geek moves and a geek look under the hood teh battery is a s right as rain and ima happy as shite since my 12" blew a hd last week and i needed to work .. a cheap backup computer and a daily backup of your shite is worth their weight in gold .. my old lombard was standing by should the unthinkable happen.
my 2 cents
