Any suggestions for modern asian motion designers/graphics designers/etc whose works was inspired by older, more popular asian artists.
It's for a paper I have to write which compares asian art and the influence newer artists have had from previous generations. Everyone else is doing painters or sculptors and I wanted to do something more digital.
Thanks!

ooh is that show still on para? we were going to have a work afternoon out to go see something and that was suggested. do you think it would be a bit too confrontational for the fainthearted? (not me obviously but we have one or two sensitive souls here)

it's on until january, and i'm definitely planning on going again. as for the content, i'd say probably not suitable for a work outing. lots of genitalia, bondage, pseudo-mutilation scenes, etc., but you should definitely go.
have you thought about the jeff wall exhibit at the tate? that might be a little less heart-attack-inducing...

Hokusai's work is very nice. Thank you, this will help a lot.

good luck, jobhall. if you do decide to go with araki, bear in mind that there's a documentary film about him (that he actually helped to create - did the soundtrack, etc.) which might be really useful for more information. i saw it as part of this exhibit that we're talking about, which is on at the barbican:

you might be able to find out more about it on their site.
enjoy!

cheers for that doll, i thought as much.
Hey the Jeff Wall exhibition looks right up my street! there's something film-still like about the shots... i love photography with a strong narrative.

yeah, that's his whole schtick. i read an article about him that said that one of his photographs took him seven years to make and was a composite of over 100 different stills. (it wasn't all that great a shot, but hey, you can't but admire those kinds of ocd levels in another human being.)
