i'm looking for suggestions from the good folks of newstoday. For my wife's class of 5th graders we're trying to put together a compilation cd of interesting instrumental music/musicians. Music that would play well in the background as the students go about their studies. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking classical music is the best way to go? I remember, in high school, we were only allowed to have classical music while studying or doing homework in class, nothing else.
But, if you're looking for something jazzy, my favourite would be 'Bela Fleck and the Flecktones'

you got me on a technicality. i withdraw my statement.

also, i am secretly a fan of tchaikovsky but only when queering around with books and higher learning moments.

jaline - classical is a good standard but we have plenty of that. I too love the bela fleck (the banjo is a perfect instrument in my opinion) but that might be a little too energetic for background music.
and salisae, now that i finish this beer and think about it, how the hell does my request make me sound queer?

Good... glad to help, if that doesn;t work try playing "Scud Attack" by Naked City, after nap time of course.

You've heard Bela's music? Awww, you're my new age hero. But true, it may be too energetic.
Maybe Edith Piaf? lol
