I'm developing a flash streaming audio player that pulls track info from a file and streams .mp3s from a music directory.
Is there a way to accomplish streaming without caching the file on the user's machine? Alternatively , any good recommendations on how to secure the music so people can't just take it?
Thanks in advance!!!

flashComm server is the only way that i know of

might be able to create a swf wrapper for the mp3 using ming, but I have NO idea if that would work...

if you can play it thorough yr system you can record it at the same quality. the only way to stop it is to provide track snippets

Good point, undo...but what matters most is that the technology we deploy does not put the file on the user's hard drive.
If someone wants to record it, that's their prerogative...that's piracy which is a whole different can o worms that I'll leave to the labels to fight.

thanks for the input, peeps.
can flash communication server DEFINITELY do this?

flash comm definately offers tru streaming of flv and swf not too sure about mp3. MM have a few new server technologies available might be worth checking out which is most suitable as flash comm is $$$

if i can hear it i can get to the source file guaranteed

version3...even if it's streaming via flashcomm server?
please explain

decompilers will always be able to show connection points and file paths
its cheating, i know. but i'm just saying
i know some sites will use a shell to call another shell to call a site that calls an xml list or something else that gets the song or audio
that just slows me down
using a decompiler i can see all the coding so if there is a song i want i'll get it
its just like the image protection thread we had a few weeks ago...
if you don't want people to have it, don't put it online

fair enough, thanks for 'splainin

Have you heard of this? This is interesting...
http://www.laszlosystems.com/dev…Do you think that J2EE deployment might help protect the files?
This is pretty fascinating, by the way; I recommend taking 10 minutes to check it out!
