anyone have any experience with getting garment patterns digitized into CAD or EPS or... ?
what's the process? do they just plot the paper pattern or is it scanned and traced on screen?

Gerber is the industry standard. If you already have paper patterns, look at the Digitizer link at the bottom here (it links to some info in .pdf format).
