what are you all using in your studios for color printing? we are in the market for a new machine and looking for some good combos of value, quality and speed.
We just got a booklet in the mail for the new Xerox 7400. Anyone use this model? Any others you could suggest?
thanks

Not too bad

we have a xerox 7700 and it sucks. get a canon and make sure you get the service agreement.

I have a Canon C3220 in my office, I like it better than Xerox or Ricah, and yes definitely get a service agreement as I have broke mine about a dozen times.

For the whole studio, get something like the Xerox 7750.
11x 17
35 ppm
great color
but its like 5k
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,…Foe individuals, just pulling quick color proofs, I just scored a Konica/Minolta Magicolor 2430 for $499 US and it rocks for a simple desk unit...sure there is no Postscript, but its interpreted by the PC... so spend a few extra buck for the xtra memory.

Thanks. Yes this would be a printer for all. About 7 people using it so needs to handle multiple jobs being sent at once.
I'll look into some of the suggestions.

we have an epson 2200 for small comps and hp designjet 5000 for large graphics and the regular tank (hp laserjet 5000)

I used a HP designjet at a previous job and it rocked. It had a software RIP to do postcript - was an inkjet - with the right photo paper it could spit out photo quality - paper was expensive though... if running costs are important make sure you get something that prints well on plain paper - lots of printers require high end expensive paper to duplicate their so called quality.

for both the epson 2200 and the designjet we have external ink wells to they are more expensive up front but you can get a larger quantity of ink (or dye) for cheaper in the long run espcially for the 2200 those little bastards, 11$ a piece add up real quick.
only bad thing about the 2200 if you want to use the matte black cartridge then you can print full bleed - really odd quirk

I just got this job running printers at a mailing house. The machine we use for color prints is an Océ cps900. Is this not a good machine for design prints?
