Is legal use home-printed (or better, inkjet printed) photos for passports and ID cards?

I think in the UK the criteria is a 'high res' photo. It's certainly been ok for myself and a few friends for a number of years now.

i've heard a rumour that the tube station photo booths are unreliable (eg: many of them are broken, but they don't tell you that until you've already put the money in. grrr...), so maybe i'll try boots (no printer at home!). thanks, all!

It's easy to take your own passport photo. Read the specific guidelines, they have space buffers for where you face should be, how much of you should be seen, the background, and the size.
It's really simple to do. And print on photo paper, regular weight paper will be destroyed in the heat process they apply photos with.

cool OnD - nearly missed this...
