just drive around. there are like 6 new buildings up around grand and olympic. with huge signs that have phone numbers on them.
why do you want to live downtown though?

its near the fashion district, but thats also the ghetto kinda. where would you recommend i live? my gf lives in west hollywood right now, down by the grove. i would move to some place in dana point, but it seems expensive and out of the way.

I used to live here: http://www.2121lofts.com Very cool spaces, awesome artist community vibe, but the landlords are hard on you if you have a party (the walls are thin).

Also... 3rd and Traction is where its at! There's a killer coffee shop with great food & vibe - lots of more "real lofts" down there. There is a loft tour you can take - I took it and it was awesome. Saw some great stuff - the website is a bit creepy though (http://www.loftlivingla.com/per... Good luck!

Dana Point isn't that expensive (it's cheaper than, say, Laguna Beach), but it's 180 degrees from downtown LA.
Dana Point is south OC. South OC is clean, new, rich, and very laid-back.
LA is LA - crowded, dirty, and a mess of traffic.
I live down in south OC as well (about 10 miles north of Dana Point), but I do it because I hate LA, and I avoid going up there as much as possible. If you have a reason (girlfriend, etc) to be in LA, you won't want to live down in Dana Point (or anywhere else down in OC), unless you can get her to move.

yeah, she goes to fidm in downtown la(its on 9th and grand), although i would love to live in dana point. i guess either are better than utah, especially for running a clothing line.

hey javaninja -- what are rents like for lofts downtown? what were you paying for your place at 2121? if you dont mind me asking ...

a friend of mine lives at 7th and Spring (on spring) . the area is shady, but the spaces are huuuge. and they have roof access. fun times at that spot.

I left LA last year and I paid $1,500 (not including utilities) back then. The space was stellar and I miss that grungy, creative neighborhood.
- spifflink0
$1500? thats not bad, what was your square footage like? i agree, its nice to live in a nice safe area, but in all honesty the shady bits and the grunge make life interesting, if not more introspective for the fact that you are witness to a number of different stations in life

i knew a dude that lived in 2121, but one day his landlord came in and said they were renovating, and i guess that meant taking over part of his space and merging it next door. he left after that. however the space looked really sick.

Im not sure on the sq footage - I'd guess between 1,000 and 1,200(?) It was space #108 - you can see it on the map from the loft website. The parking lot area and entrance to the building was secure - so it was comforting just enough for a single female.
There are so many diamonds in the rough down there - An amazing fish market and divey bars up the street in J-Town/Chinatown.
Ahhh.... I'm missin' it! I had to save my penny's to make it down there, but it was worth every one of 'em!

dude, i just graduated from FIDM.
what's your girl's major there?
- spifflink0
apparel manufacturing. i was going in for fashion design originally, and so her and i went down there to tour it, and she ended up going instead, haha. i am stuck in utah for a while, i am in a band that is actually going somewhere, so its a bit tricky, but i want to move down there so bad, i'll probably end up moving early next year or something.
