ok. i know ska went belly up in '98, but i never really quit listening to the first wave shit and a lot of the stuff coming out of NYC (stubborn all-stars, skoi-dats, version city collaborations, etc).
who's got old vinyl laying around they want to sell or trade me of any of the NYC shit? i know some of you were right there while it was happening. don't lie.

the first wave of ska was in the 60's.

followed by second wave in the early 80's

correct... i'm talking about most of the 3rd wave shit out of new york around the mid-late 90s that's still kind of hanging on with the slackers and django projects.
most of 2tone was foul outside of the specials, but you can't front on the 60s jams. its all kind of getting bigger now on the west coast with all the skinhead reggae bands like aggrolites and stuff.

I'm silly, I think ska should be done by black people 35 years ago.

well, they did it the best... laurel aitken was even hanging on until this year. glad i got to see him live. desmond dekker's still rolling.
but some of that 3rd wave shit was pretty damn good. hepcat's push'n'shove sounds like it was cut in 60s jamaica

i like reggae
but i hate ska
the ska I'm thinking of anyways

well reggae was birthed out of early ska... so to most they almost sound the same except for ska's faster upbeat - reggae being slower, more melodic and rocksteady even a step below that.
you're probably thinking of reel big fish and less than jake. that's enough to make anyone sick.
