I don't mean to be a tit like but gaffers tape is about 1% the strength of duct tape, you got it mixed up.
Gaffers tape rips easily and that is why it is well suited to musicians work, and filming etc. quick to use and rip down.

I have seen them but only on an scrween and once in a dream but that was private needless to say they all got a go of my putter :\ sorry vespa's future hubby she just watched I promise.

@chossy - It does rip easier, but I assure you in my experience (I do live sound 5-6 nights a week) it's hold is much stronger, and it doesn't leave a residue behind like Duct Tape does, either.

Gaffer's Tape is much nicer and stronger.

besides the term 500 mile / hour tape has always been associated with duct tape as it is used in aviation to hold parts together for assembly
duct tape = stronger and white trashier

gaffers tape is filled with paper fiber
if you are referring to cloth tapes like duct tape it is called cloth tape as it has the same non residual adhesive
but still not gaffers tape
if we want to test them against each other i suggest Myth Busters

Everybody is wrong and I am right, gaffer tape has fiber some have paper some have plastic backing, duct tape or duck tape whatever is much much stronger. This silly disscussion should end quickly, if you really must look up google for some answers you will not be happy.
I began with a simple I donj't want to be a tit and look where it has got us all to can we not just get along and accept I am the one who rules the roost up in here (when it comes to tape products):D
