Bizarre - Clients Site Hijacked!

Ok heres the story - has this happened anyone else?
Client emails today say they're having trouble logging into their CMS, I go to the site and see its giving a 403 forbidden, strange but email back saying I'll fix it.. Get onto the case check everything and its fine, can't understand what the problem is - then go and do a Nameserver lookup on the domain because I suspect the site thats live isn't actually the site on my server - and I'm right! nameservers been change so the site I'm seeing is something completely different, however they have copied the site perfectly onto the new server, except they've removed all the dynamic content (forms etc) but the site is there intact (its structure is perfect and not a broken link around) just running off some random server???
why would someone do such a thing? fuking bizarre!
